Take a look at your laptop, smartphones & tablet. They all require space. Have you ever given a thought of how and when they were made? Do you remember how external hard drive used to look like? Lets take a look at their milestone
The first hard drive was invented by IBM, by an engineer by the name of Reynold B. Johnson. The first hard drive was called the IBM 350 Disk File, and it supported the IBM 305 RAMAC computer system
1980’s – 1990’s
When Apple invented personal computer, internal and external hard drives were also created. But the external hard drive wasn’t exactly a success, and more people preferred to use their internal hard drive. If a user needs more space, all she or he has to do is replace the current internal drive with another one with bigger space.
1994 – today
The revolution of external hard drive begins. The USB technology was introduced by Compaq, DEC, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NEC and Nortel. This the beginning of the USB technology we know today, starting from the thumb drive or the flash drive. However, the first thumb drive was rumored to require a cable, and it wasn’t until much later that the wireless one was invented.
Now space/storage in external hard drive is getting bigger, and hard drives and thumb drives are getting smaller, but with faster speed. Most external hard drive can even cater to your lifestyle. For example, if you’re always on the run, you might need something small and slim and easy to carry around. If you spend a lot of time outdoor, you might need something thats built tough. And if you work in a corporate company and don’t carry much data, you might just need tiny thumb drive.
